Healing Smoothies – Immune System Boost

Healing Smoothies - Immune System Boost

Diet and lifestyle play a major role in our immune system’s ability to keep our body protected and safe from invading pathogens and functioning at optimum levels. Unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits such as smoking, exhaust fumes, eating a fatty or diet rich in processed foods and junk foods, excessive alcohol consumption exposes us to compound known as “Free Radicals”. Free radicals cause cell damage in the body that may eventually lead to illness and disease. When our immune system has to constantly work to defend against free radicals, it has less resources to fight of viruses and bacteria which is why we tend to get more sicknesses when we fail to eat well and live well. In basic terms; the more free radicals we have in our system the less optimal our immunity will be and the more open to illness we become. By eating a healthy foods high in antioxidants like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and lean meats, we can give our immune system a good boost and fighting change to do it’s job well.

Welcome friends. The following information and smoothie recepies are aimed specifically at helping to eliminate free radicals from the system and to aid in immune system functioning and also help in reducing inflammation which is an immune system response also. Inflammation in the short term is all good as it help to protect injured tissues etc but when it become chronic and perpetuates due to irritation from compounds like free radicals, it can make our immune system suffer.

Main Ingredients

The list of main ingredients below are the most prominent ones I use for this purpose but you will see in the recepies that I do use others as well. A good tip is to consider using herbal tinctures in the smoothie as well as the taste is well hidden but you still gain the benefits. Consider; Echinacea, Astragalus, Olive Leaf, Siberian Ginseng, Ginger.

  • Carrots, Capsicum, Dark Leafy Greens – All these vegetables are rich in Vitamin A which helps to protect the body by moistening mucus membranes and producing healing enzymes.
  • Sunflower Seeds, Almonds – Both are high in Vitamin E which is a fat soluble compound that serves as a powerful ANTIOXIDANT. It aids in keeping the hair, skin healthy and plays a large role in the prevention of bladder and prostate cancer as well Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • Papaya, Strawberries, Citrus, Broccoli – All are high in Vitamin C possibly the most well known immune booster of all the vitamins. Vit. C stimulates the production of white blood cells and also plays a role in  protecting the joints and eyes and preventing certain types of skin cancer. Vit. C is a powerful antioxidant.
  • Spelt, Sesame Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds, Oats – These foods are rich in zinc which helps to maintain white blood cell levels and is important in wound healing.
  • Garlic – Well known for it’s antibacterial and antiviral properties and is also helpful in preventing cancers such as renal cancer and colorectal cancers.
